Music Stands

Beautiful music deserves an equally beautiful stand to hold the music.

The music stands shown are some of those created in the workshop of StrathamWood Studios and are being enjoyed by clients in the United States and across Europe. Several of my music stands have found homes with harpists who are seeking to have a stand as beautiful as the instrument they play.

I would be delighted to create a music stand that is uniquely yours.

The Wagner Stand.

A commissioned piece, the client was seeking a stand in walnut and curly maple and incorporating some music by Wagner into the banding.

The column and feet of the stand are black walnut, inlaid with curly maple and holly.

The tablet or desk of the stand features a central panel of highly figured crotch walnut which is surrounded by the musical banding, curly maple, and a beaded edging of ebony.

Both height and angle are adjustable and the selected positions are fixed in place with a brass pin topped with an ebony knob.

Commission inquiries are welcome.

Music Stand in Mahogany and maple

Mahogany & Maple.

The client was seeking a beautiful music stand to pair with her beautiful and precious Salvi Arianna harp. Living in Europe she was also quite concerned that all materials would be in compliance with CITES regulations which are quite involved regarding importation of materials including many species of wood.

The client also had some specific requests with respect to the style and stability of the base and as always the design was customized to suit the clients needs and wishes.

The stand is fashioned from mahogany with curly maple inlaid into the column and holly stringing on the base. The music desk features mahogany in the center panel, surrounded by curly maple with ebony accents. The desk is adjustable in height and angle.

The harp is now in Europe paired with the Salvi harp and the client is delighted.

Music Stand in Maple Ebony

Curly Maple & Macassar Ebony.

This music stand was designed and built to be shown in The New Hampshire Furniture Masters 2020 exhibition entitled “Alone Together”. The exhibition was an opportunity for makers to reflect on the events of 2020 and perhaps to incorporate those thoughts into a new piece.

The global pandemic along with the social and political turmoil that was ever present in 2020 are reflected in my choices in the design of this music stand. Music itself can be a calming and healing force and it also has the power to unite people with its universal appeal.

the choice of woods, starkly contrasting with each other but in harmony on the stand makes a further statement about strength and unity.

The column is some extraordinary curly hard maple and the facets on the six sides all catch and reflect light differently. the base is Macassar ebony, sitting atop bun feet from the same curly maple.

The tablet or desk of the stand features a central panel of tilted maple, surrounded by a banding of ebony and holly, Macassar ebony, and a beaded ebony edging.
